Deputy Commanding General, Training and Education Command
Brigadier General Matthew S. Reid

Brigadier General Matthew Reid assumed his current duties as Deputy Commanding General, Training and Education Command, in October of 2021.  Brigadier General Reid is a native of Malone, New York, and graduated from Norwich University in Vermont with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in May of 1993 and was commissioned in the United States Marine Corps through the NROTC scholarship program. 

He has attended The Basic School, Infantry Officer Course, LAV Leaders Course, Cavalry Leaders Course, and the US Army Infantry Officer Advanced Course and has Masters Degrees from the Marine Corps Command and Staff College and the National War College.

His service in the Fleet Marine Forces include: Platoon Commander and Company Executive Officer with 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion on two MEUs (April 1994 – December 1996); Company Commander and Operations Officer with 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines on a MEU and for OIF-1 in Iraq (June 2001 – December 2003); Assistant Operations Officer/Current Operations Officer with Regimental Combat Team-1 in Iraq for a year (August 2007 – April 2009); 1MARDIV G-3 Training Officer (April – October 2009); Battalion Commander with 2d Battalion, 1st Marines in Afghanistan for OEF (October 2009 – May 2011); Regimental Commander with 6th Marines and Deputy Commander of Task Force Southwest in Afghanistan (April 2016 – May 2018). Overall FMF deployments include three Western Pacific Marine Expeditionary Units, two tours in Iraq, and two tours in Afghanistan.

His service outside the Operating Forces include: Inspector and Instructor with Company F, 2d Battalion, 25th Marines, Albany, New York (January 1997 – December 2000); Commanding Officer with Marine Corps Recruiting Station Orlando, Florida (January 2004 – June 2006); Military Assistant with the Deputy Undersecretary of the Navy (Policy) Department of the Navy, Pentagon (May 2015 – April 2016); Military Fellow with the Council on Foreign Relations, New York City (June 2018 – June 2019); Director of the Tactical Training and Exercise Control Group and Deputy Commander with MAGTF-TC, 29 Palms, California (June 2019 – July 2021); Chief of Staff, TECOM (August – October 2021).

His service with Joint Forces include: Chief of the Net-Centric Innovation Division, COIC, JIEDDO, Reston, Virginia (June 2012 – May 2015). 

Decorations include 3 Legions of Merit, 2 Bronze Stars (1 with V), the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, 2 Meritorious Service Medals, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, 3 Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals (1 with V), 2 Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, and 2 Combat Action Ribbons.
