Long lines at the disbursing office are quickly becoming a thing of the past with the implementation and improvement of online pay services.

Leave and earning statements went online months ago with E/MSS. Now, myPay?s new design, launched Oct. 15, helps customers find the information they want and complete any transaction in just three clicks. Available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, myPay means no waiting in long lines or on the phone. Customer confidence is one of the many objectives of myPay, with clear, concise confirmation messages.

?myPay is the key to taking control of your pay information,? said Tom Bloom, director of the Defense Finance and Accounting Service. ?By providing innovative and reliable tools to the men and women who serve our country, we help them focus on their mission by eliminating worry and hassle associated with their pay and benefits.?

At the myPay site, customers can do the following activities:

? Access and print Leave and Earnings Statements

? View and print tax statements

? Change federal and state tax withholdings

? Update bank account and electronic funds transfer information

? Manage allotments

? Edit address information

? Purchase U.S. Savings Bonds

? Control Thrift Savings Plan enrollment

? View and print travel vouchers

myPay isn?t going to put any disbursing Marines out of a job, but it can definitely save them time and American taxpayers millions of dollars in printing, postage and customer service costs. For instance, according to Bloom, if just the civilian employees of the Department of Defense choose to stop receiving printed versions of their LES, it would save $6 million annually.

Locally, the system is eliminating much unnecessary paperwork from the battalion level down to the finance center, as well as allotment and direct deposit paperwork at banks.

?What myPay does is alleviate the heartache down here,? said Staff Sgt. Jason Thornton, pay NCOIC. There are also plans in the works to help service members who may need assistance getting started with myPay.

?We are setting up a computer down here that Marines can use if they need assistance setting up the account or working with myPay,? said Thornton. ?Anyone who needs help can come here and we?ll be glad to help.?

To access your myPay account, simply click on www.dfas.mil and follow the links to myPay. The smooth transition from E/MSS to myPay allows you to use the same Personal Identification Number as before. Marines who need a new PIN or to start a new account can just click on ?need new PIN? and one will be mailed to them. For Army and Navy personnel, fax your name, social security number, phone number, signature and a copy of a government ID to DFAS at 216-522-5800.

Customers with questions about myPay can call customer support at 800-390-2348 or locally, the Combat Finance Center?s customer service, at 228-2338 or -3289.
