Depot, USO to celebrate Christmas with concert

The Depot will be conducting a Christmas concert at the Lyceum Saturday at 8 p.m. for all service members, their families, retirees and civilians in the Tri-Command area. The concert, which is hosted by Brig. Gen. Joseph J. McMenamin, commanding general, MCRD/ERR Parris Island, is entitled "A USO Christmas" featuring the Parris Island Jazz Band and the Liberty Belles of the USO performing an old-time USO show to include decorations geared toward war-year events such as blood drives, Red Cross and Salvation Army coffee stands.The Liberty Belles, along with the Band, will be performing classic songs from the 1940s and 50s such as, "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy," "Don't Sit Under the Apple Tree," and "I'll Be Seeing You." "It's going to be an awesome show," said Sgt. Stephen B. Giove, the Christmas Concert director, who said the show will also include period costumes and hairstyles, dance numbers and audience interaction.Santa Claus will arrive at 7 p.m., and the show will begin at 8 p.m. Military policemen from the Provost Marshal's Office will begin directing traffic from Boulevard de France to designated parking areas near the Lyceum.
