Military friendly employers are out there if people know where to look. Even during this economic downturn, those employers are still hiring veterans.

Sodexo, a food service company, earned its third recognition from the military as one of the top 50 military friendly employers for veterans and their families.

“I feel that Sodexo offers great opportunities to servicemembers and their families,” said Angela Guidroz, a recruitment manager for Sodexo, and former Marine. “We look for hard workers and initiative.”

According to a press release from Sodexo, they currently employ 3,000 veterans and are growing those numbers annually.

“We want to continually increase these numbers,” Guidroz explained.  “We understand that finding employment after the military can be frustrating.”

The year before, Sodexo was honored with the Pro Patria Award from the Maryland Committee and the Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award, the highest federal recognition the company could receive.

Sodexo hasn’t earned these awards easily.

“Sodexo takes great pride in the service we provide to military families each day,” said Stacy Bowman-Hade, from Hagerstown Md., public relations director for Sodexo.

According to Guidroz, Sodexo believes in serving and providing those who have served their country with opportunities in the civilian world.“I’m a former Marine, and I understand what they are going through,” said Guidroz, from La. “I can’t employ a machine gunner, but I can use his leadership skills in Sodexo.”

The company also helps veterans write their resumes and prepare for future interviews.

Sodexo is looking for people who are familiar with customer service, Guidroz explained. They have to know what it means to serve, she added.

Even in the declining economy, Sodexo hasn’t had a problem hiring veterans or their families, and according to Guidroz, they won’t be laying anyone off.

Bottom line, she said, Sodexo earned its recognition by honoring the troops with employment after service, and they will continue to do so for as long as they can.
