Fleet Week 2009 wraps up after successful run

As the month of October comes to an end so does Fleet Week 2009. Since 1995 Fleet Week San Diego has been the nation’s largest tribute to service members who have dedicated their lives to the nation’s freedom and way of life.

The success of Fleet Week San Diego relies heavy on the partnership between the local community and the military services stationed in the area. Without the immense support of the San Diego community the military would not be able to successfully complete its missions.

The Marines, sailors and Coast Guardsmen who live and work in the area also volunteer their time out in town to help support the community that does so much to support them, from leading scout troops to building or repairing homes for the less fortunate.

This years fleet Week events included the Coronado Speed Festival; Marine Corps Air Station Miramar Calif., airshow; the parade of Navy ships and exhibits; the Marine Corps Recruit Depot Boot Camp Challenge; various recognition events; and concerts.
