Who we are

Education Command/Marine Corps University develops and delivers professional military education and training through resident and distance programs in order to prepare leaders for current and future military challenges; concurrently, it preserves and presents the history of the Marine Corps in order to inform decision-making and communicate Marine Corps heritage to Marines and the Nation.

In memoriam of General Alfred M. Gray Jr. (1928 – 2024), we honor his legacy of educating Marines to prevail in combat. The father of MCU, General Gray transformed a group of schools into a modern PME system. John Solie's portrait hangs in the MCU President's conference room and inspired the “I’m looking for warriors to follow me” poster.

7 March 2024. Marine Corps University (MCU) hosted our friends and partners from the Japan US Military Program (JUMP), a subsidiary of the Sasakawa Peace Foundation USA. The event included opening remarks from both Brigadier General Hennigan, President, MCU, and Rear Admiral Takaaki Hayamizu from the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, serving as Japan’s Defense and Naval Attaché to the United States. The remarks were followed by a robust dialogue between MCU students and panel members from Japan’s Self-Defense Force, the US Department of State, and the Sasakawa Peace Foundation. Discussions centered on the evolution of the Japan-US security relationship, Japan’s strategic direction for defense, and regional threats. TRIANGLE, VIRGINIA , 2 March 2024. Actor and filmmaker Matthew Modine attended the opening of the "Full Metal Modine" exhibit at the National Museum of the Marine Corps.

Full Metal Modine is an exhibition featuring large-scale aluminum prints of photographs taken by Modine while on the set of Full Metal Jacket. President Lecture Series event #3, 14 Mar 2024. Lieutenant General Kevin Iiams, Commanding General of Training and Education Command, moderates a panel exploring the Marine Corps' Force Design with Lieutenant Generals Karsten Heckl and James Bierman, and Brigadier General Forrest Poole III (Deputy Commandants for Combat Development and Integration (CD&I) and Plans, Policies and Operations (PP&O), and Assistant Deputy Commandant for Installation and Logistics (I&L), respectively). They discussed where the Corps currently stands with Force Design, its future direction, and how Marines can support the continuum of learning.
