Sergeant Major Theakston

Sergeant Major Theakston enlisted in the Marine Corps in September 1983 and attended recruit training at Parris Island, South Carolina. After completing Assault Amphibian Crewman’s course at Camp Pendleton California, Private First Class Theakston was assigned to Company A, 2nd Assault Amphibian Battalion, 2d Marine Division for duty as an Assault Amphibian Vehicle Crewman/Commander and Assistant Section Leader.

In March 1988, Sergeant Theakston was reassigned to Headquarters and Service Company for duties as the Battalion Legal Chief. In February 1989, Sergeant Theakston reported to Drill Instructor School at Parris Island, South Carolina. Upon graduation in May 1989, he was assigned to Company F, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion where he served as a Drill Instructor and Senior Drill Instructor. In July 1991, Sergeant Theakston reported to 2nd Assault Amphibian Battalion, 2d Marine Division for duties with Headquarters and Service Company, where he filled the billets of Section Leader, Platoon Sergeant and Platoon Commander for Mobility Counter Mobility Platoon.

In January 1992, Staff Sergeant Theakston was reassigned to Company C for duties as Section Leader and Platoon Sergeant. Later he would return back to Headquarters and Service Company for duties as a Platoon Sergeant, Platoon Commander, and Company Gunnery Sergeant. In July 1996, Gunnery Sergeant Theakston reported to the Staff Noncommissioned Officer Academy, Okinawa, Japan for duties as an Instructor and Advisor for the Sergeant’s Course and Career Course and as the Staff Noncommissioned Officer in charge of the Sergeants course.

In July of 1999, Gunnery Sergeant Theakston was reassigned to Company B, 2nd Assault Amphibian Battalion, 2d Marine Division for duties as Platoon Sergeant and Company Gunnery Sergeant. In January 2000 First Sergeant Theakston reported to Company A, 2nd Assault Amphibian Battalion, 2d Marine Division for duties as Company First Sergeant.

In May 2002 First Sergeant Theakston was reassigned to Headquarters Battalion, 2d Marine Division for duties as Company First Sergeant of Small Craft Company, and as First Sergeant of Headquarters Company.

During January 2005, Sergeant Major Theakston was reassigned to 3d Battalion 6th Marines and assumed the duties of the Battalion Sergeant Major. During May 2006 Sergeant Major Theakston was reassigned and assumed the duties of Recruiting Station Sergeant Major in Lansing, MI. In February 2010 Sergeant Major Theakston received orders for his current post to School of Infantry-East.

Sergeant Major Theakston’s personal decorations include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with 2 Gold Stars, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with 3 Gold Stars and the Combat Action Ribbon.
