               He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in November 1985.  Following graduation at Parris Island, South Carolina, he attended Infantry Training School at Camp Geiger, North Carolina as an Anti-Tank gunner.  In July 1987 he was assigned to Anti-Tank (TOW) Company, 2d Tank Battalion, 2d Marine Division.  During this tour, he served on three deployments, the last time being attached to 2d Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2d Marine Division in August 1990 and taking part of Operation “PROVIDE COMFORT” as a Squad leader into northern Iraq.


                In July 1993, Sergeant Goulding attended Drill Instructor school at Parris Island, South Carolina and served as a Drill Instructor in Bravo Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion until October 1995.  He was then transferred to Anti-Tank (TOW) Platoon, Headquarters Company, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division.  There, he deployed on two JTF missions along the US/Mexican border.  Upon being promoted to Staff Sergeant, he reported for duty with 2d Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division and deployed twice (UDP) to Okinawa, Japan.


                Staff Sergeant Goulding reported to Quantico, Virginia in September 2000 to serve as a Drill Instructor at Officer Candidate School.  He also was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant and served nine months as the S-6 Chief for Officer Candidate School.  In December 2004, he reported to Port Hueneme, California to serve as the military advisor to the Battalion Commander of Naval Mobile Construction Battalion Four.  He deployed with the Seabees to OIF in Fallujah, Iraq in August 2004 and was a Convoy Commander for over 150 missions.


                In August 2005, Gunnery Sergeant Goulding reported again to 2d Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment and served as the Company Gunnery Sergeant of Company E.  The Battalion deployed in December 2005 to (UDP) Okinawa, Japan and participated in the relieve effort of the mud slide disaster in the Philippines in February 2006.  In July 2006, he was promoted and transferred to Company F to serve as the Company 1st Sergeant.  In March 2007, the Battalion deployed to OIF inside the city of Ramadi, Iraq. 


1st Sergeant Goulding was assigned to I-I Ebensburg, Pennsylvania as the Inspector & Instructor 1st Sergeant, 1st and 2d Platoon, Truck Company, Headquarters Battalion, 4th Marine Division in January 2008.  He reported to his current billet, 1st Sergeant of Weapons Company, 2d Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division in July 2010.  In August 2012, the Battalion deployed to OEF in the Helmand Province, Afghanistan.


                1st Sergeant Goulding’s personal awards include the Purple Heart, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (2 awards), Navy Achievement Medal (2 awards), Good Conduct Medal (8 awards), Combat Action Ribbon, and Drill Instructor Ribbon (2 awards).


He is married and has four children.
