SERGEANT MAJOR CARLOS A. REINA

 

A native of Cali, Colombia, Sergeant Major Reina enlisted in the Marine Corps on 13 November 1985.  He was then sent to Parris Island, South Carolina where he completed recruit training in February of 1986.  Private First Class Reina was then transferred to the Marine Corps Artillery School at Fort Sills, Oklahoma.  Upon graduation, Private First Class Reina was assigned to Romeo Battery 5/10, 10th Marines, Camp Lejuene, North Carolina.

 In July 1989, Corporal Reina attended Aviation Hydraulics Mechanic School, Naval Air Station, Memphis, Tennessee.  Upon graduation, he was assigned to Helicopter Marine Light Attack Squadron 367 (HMLA 367), Marine Aircraft Group 39, Camp Pendleton, California.  During his tour, he participated in several deployments and also in support of Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm. 

 In May of 1993, Sergeant Reina was transferred to Inspector - Instructor duty at Marine Aircraft Group 49, Detachment C, 4th MAW, Naval Air Station, South Weymouth, Massachusetts.  In July 1994, Sergeant Reina transferred to Drill Instructor’s School, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California. Upon completion of Drill Instructor School, he was assigned to Company A, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, as a Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor and as a Senior Drill Instructor for Receiving Company with Headquarters Support Battalion. 

 In November 1996, Staff Sergeant Reina was transferred to Helicopter Marine Training Squadron 303, Marine Aircraft Group 39, Camp Pendleton, California as Military Occupational Specialty instructor. 

 In June of 1999, Gunnery Sergeant Reina was transferred to HMLA 367 as the Airframes Chief.  During this time, he deployed to Okinawa, the Philippines and Korea. 

 In July of 2003, First Sergeant Reina was transferred to Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California as Company A, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, Company First Sergeant.  In September 2006, he was assigned to Headquarters Support Battalion, Special Training Company as the Company First Sergeant.   

 In August 2007, First Sergeant Reina was transferred to 1st Battalion, 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton, California, where he assumed the duties as Bravo Company First Sergeant.  While with Bravo Company 1/1, he deployed to Operation Iraqi Freedom Southern Iraq.  In March 2008, he was assigned the billet of Head Quarters and Service Company, Company First Sergeant.

 In February 2009, Sergeant Major Reina was transferred to Helicopter Marine Heavy Squadron 463, Marine Air Group 24 as the Squadron Sergeant Major.  While with the squadron he deployed to Operation Enduring Freedom, in Southern Afghanistan. 

 In April 2010, SgtMaj Reina was transferred to Marine Air Control Squadron – 1 (REIN), Marine Air Control Group 38, at Yuma, Arizona as the Squadron Sergeant Major.

 In Jan 2013, SgtMaj Reina was transferred to the School of Infantry (West) at Camp Pendleton, CA where he is currently the school Sergeant Major.

 SgtMaj Reina’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with two gold stars.
