Sergeant Major Hermance serves as the Battalion Sergeant Major, Infantry Training Battalion, School of Infantry West, Camp Pendleton, California.

Sergeant Major Hermance enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on 10 October 1990 and attended Recruit Training at MCRD Parris Island, South Carolina.  Upon completion of Recruit Training, he received training at the Marine Corps Engineer School, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, where he received the Military Occupational Specialty of 1345, Heavy Equipment Operator.  Following the Equipment Operators Course, Sergeant Major Hermance reported to Marine Wing Support Squadron 172 in Okinawa, Japan.  In October of 1991, he was deployed to Pohang, Korea.   

 In June of 1992, Sergeant Major Hermance reported to Marine Wing Support Squadron 271, Cherry Point, North Carolina.  In June of 1993, Sergeant Major Hermance was promoted to the rank of Corporal. In December of 1995, Sergeant Major Hermance reenlisted and reported to 3rd Marine Division, Okinawa, Japan where he served as a Licensing NCO and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant.

 In December of 1996, Sergeant Major Hermance reported to Marine Wing Support Squadron 372, Camp Pendleton, California and was assigned as a Licensing NCO and Platoon Sergeant.  In December of 1998, he reenlisted and received orders to Drill Instructor School, MCRD Parris Island, South Carolina.  In November of 2009, he was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was assigned to India Company and served as a Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor, and Series Gunnery Sergeant. 

 In September of 2002, Sergeant Major Hermance was reassigned to 3rd Marine Division, Okinawa, Japan.  He served as the Operations SNCOIC and SNCOIC of Support Platoon.

 In October of 2003, Sergeant Major Hermance received orders to Marine Wing Support Squadron 274 where he served as SNCOIC of the Heavy Equipment Platoon. He was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant in December of 2003.  In February of 2004, he deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom with Marine Wing Support Squadron 273.  Upon his return, Sergeant Major Hermance served as the First Sergeant, Engineer Company and deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom with Marine Wing Support Squadron 274.

 In April of 2007, Sergeant Major Hermance was transferred to MCRD San Diego and was assigned to Second Recruit Training Battalion where he served as the First Sergeant, Company G.  In May of 2009, First Sergeant Hermance was transferred to Instructional Training Company, MCRD  San Diego.

 In January 2010, Sergeant Major Hermance was transferred to MCAGCC Twnentynine Palms, Ca and was assigned as the Company First Sergeant, Weapons Co, 1st Bn 7Th Marines. In July of 2010, he deployed to the 31st MEU, Okinawa, Japan. 

 In April of 2011 Sergeant Major Hermance was assigned to Headquarters and Service Company, 1st Bn 7th Marines. In March of 2012, he deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.  

 Sergeant Major Hermance was promoted to his current rank in March of 2013 and was transferred to Infantry Training Battalion West where he serves as the Battalion Sergeant major.

 Sergeant Major Hermance’s personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3rd award) the Navy the Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3rd award) and the Combat Action Ribbon.

 First Sergeant Hermance is married and has three children.
