Lieutenant Colonel Thomas H. Gilley, IV was born in Baltimore, Maryland and graduated from the University of Maryland Baltimore County in May 1996 with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Minors in Accounting and Finance.  He went to Officer Candidates School and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in August 1996.  He is a Ground Logistics Officer by MOS and completed The Basic School and the Basic Logistics Officers Course in 1997.

Lieutenant Colonel Gilley’s assignments include 3rd Battalion,12th Marines in Okinawa, where he served as the Assistant Logistics Officer, Maintenance Management Officer and Embarkation Officer (1997-1998); 2nd Force Service Support Group (Marine Logistics Command) in Kuwait, where he served as the G-3 Transportation Support Element Watch Officer (2003); Marine Service Support Group-24 in Iraq, where he served as the Operations Officer (2003-2005); 2nd Transportation Support Battalion, where he served as Beach & Terminal Operation Company Commander (2005-2006); Marine Wing Support Squadron 172 in Okinawa, where he served as the Operations Officer and the Executive Officer (2010-2012); and 3d Marine Division, where he served as the G-4 Material Readiness Branch OIC (2012-2013).

His Supporting Establishment assignments include Officer Candidates School, where he served as the Assistant Logistics Officer, Safety Officer, Assistant Operations Officer, and Training Company Platoon Commander (1998-2001); and Training and Education Command, as the Deputy Director Logistics Division (2013-2014).

Lieutenant Colonel Gilley’s Joint assignments include United Nations Military Observer Group-Washington, where he served as an U.N. Military Observer and Sector G-3 in Western Sahara, Africa (2001-2002); and as J-4 Joint Logistics Planner, U.S. Central Command (2006-2009).

Lieutenant Colonel Gilley also received a Masters of Sciences in Logistics Management from Florida Institute of Technology in 2002.  Also, he graduated from USMC Expeditionary Warfare School (2002-2003), Joint Forces Staff College (2007), and USMC Command and Staff College (2009-2010).  Additional military education includes: Airborne Course, Tactical Logistics Officers Course, Advanced Logistics Officer Course, Weapons and Tactics Instructors Course, Advanced Logistics and Technology Course, and Joint Logistics Course.

His decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service, Meritorious Service (2), Navy/Marine Corps Commendation, Joint Service Achievement (2), Navy/Marine Corps Achievement medals, the Combat Action Ribbon, and U.S. Navy & Marine Corps Parachutist Badge.

Lieutenant Colonel Gilley is married to the former Kimberly Lynn Wagner, and they have two children, Ryan and Sarah.
