The Depot Commanding General, Brig. Gen. Joseph J. McMenamin, awarded Bill Knepp, Navy Federal's local branch manager, a Certificate of Commendation Jan. 13 for his 20 years of Navy Federal service to the Command, the men, women and families of
the Marine Corps, and to the greater Parris Island community.

A retired captain with more than 20 years of military service, Knepp joined Navy Federal as the manager of the Parris Island branch in 1984. His military career began when he enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1955, advanced through the ranks from private to chief warrant officer and retired in 1976 as a captain.

Colonel Michael A. Malachowsky, Depot Chief of Staff, honored Knepp during a ceremony at the Navy Federal branch office.

"[Mr.] Knepp has won the respect and admiration of the Tri-Command and civilian communities through his personal financial management classes and inclusion in the 'Once a Marine' program, Tri-Command retiree/spouse seminars, Kiwanis Club of Beaufort, American Cancer Society's Relay for Life, Retired Officers' Association and Marine Corps Reserve

Toys for Tots," said Malachowsky as he read the commendation. "[His] initiative and devotion to duty reflected great credit upon himself and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and the United States Naval Service."

"I know that 20 years from now it won't matter what my savings account was, the type of house I lived in or the kind of car I drove, but the world may be different because I was important in the life of a Navy Federal Credit Union member or employee," said the delighted Knepp during the ceremony.

Navy Federal is the world's largest credit union with more than 2.3 million members and $20 billion in assets. Headquartered in Vienna, Va., the credit union operates more than 100 branch offices and 278 proprietary ATMs worldwide. The credit union serves all the Department of the Navy military and civilian personnel, contractors who provide service to or work for DON on a regular basis, and their families.
