Depot Band presents holiday concert

The Parris Island Marine Band presented their 2002 Holiday Concert at the Depot Theater Dec. 14. The concert was the culmination of months of hard work and rehearsals put in by the band in preparation for the annual event.

In addition to the typical holiday favorites, the band performed vocal numbers, big band tunes, and a slide show made by the Marines for their families.

"The Scottish Tenors," a vocal quartet comprised of Sgt. Nathan Wilson, Sgt. Stephen Davis, Cpl. Scott Anderson, and Cpl. Matthew Gunn, dazzled the crowd with their a capella remake of the Twelve Days of Christmas, appropriately called the Twelve Weeks of Boot Camp. Davis, who performed the first half of the concert, flew out of the theater mid-show, with the band officer explaining that Davis'

wife had just given birth to their second son.

Chief Warrant Officer Robert A. Szabo, the band officer and principle conductor, brought back a favorite addition from last year's concert, inviting his wife Corinne to sing with the band. Her performance of "O Holy Night" brought the appreciative crowd to their feet.

Perhaps the highlight of the evening was two special appearances by band staff NCOs. Staff Sgt. Stephanie Errickson, a flute player with the band, donned Marilyn Monroe garb for her performance while Master Sgt. Ronald Hackler, Depot bandmaster, performed "Santa Baby."

To end the evening, Hackler, posing as "The bald Elvis," sang "Jingle Bell Rock" a la king.
The band also supports functions of the Eastern Recruiting Region. The Depot Brass Band has been a personal guest of the Commandant of the Marine Corps.
