With the state and federal tax season finally over, the Depot Tax Center was able to tally the amount of clients they helped with their 2005 taxes.

The center was expecting to break the number of taxes filed last year, and they did just that.  The 2004 tax year brought 1,650 clients to the tax center, and this year they beat it with 1,670 federal taxes filed.  Add that to the 1,201 state taxes, which was a new record also, and there was a total savings of more than $153 million.

The Marines who worked at the Depot Tax Center started preparing for the tax season in September of last year by attending a bi-weekly, three-month course, given by a commercial tax preparation service, as an introduction to the complex subject of tax preparation.  In addition, the Marines spent one week in December with an Internal Revenue Service employee becoming Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program qualified.

Next year, the Marines who work in the tax center have ambitions for even higher numbers and assure quality will remain their highest priority.

Future clients can rest assure the phenomenal attention to detail and quality that made the 2005 tax season will continue into the 2006 season, too.
