U.S. Marine Corps veteran Cpl. Leighton Willhite, who served in the Battle of Iwo Jima, views the name painted on a World War II-era Sherman Tank at the Museum Support Facility in Dumfries, Virginia, Aug. 15, 2025. The National Museum of the Marine Corps hosted an event commemorating the 80th anniversary of Japan’s surrender, highlighting “Lucky” a World War II-era Sherman tank, being reunited with its driver.
