Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego Commanding General Brig. Gen. Daniel D. Yoo, is awarded the first Marine Corps museum re-certification by Lin Ezell, National Museum of the Marine Corps director, Jan. 31 aboard MCRD San Diego's Command Museum. MCRD was orginally certified in 1987 by the Marine Corps history department. Now under the new Marine Administrative Message that came out in 2005 the four certified Marine museums are required to get re-certified every ten years by the National Museum of the Marine Corps, said Ezell. In late 2010 members of the National Museum of the Marine Corps came to MCRD to evaluate the museum staff, records and more. They concluded that the museum was well supported by the command and eligible for re-certification "As I tell the recruit families, this museum is a window into the soul of our corps," said Yoo. "For us to be able to show everyone that comes through, our espirt de corps, its pretty significant."
