Climbers use upper body strength at San Diego’s Solid rock Gym Nov. 24. Solid Rock Gym has more than 115 top ropes, making it difficult to replicate climbing routes. Marines can increase their physical and mental health, particularly upper body strength through rock climbing. Gomez was awarded the medal for actions while serving as team chief for Iraqi Military Transition Team 0720 in 2008. Gomez’s responsibilities were leading a team involved in the training of an Iraqi Army Brigade by assisting them in the transition to a self-sustaining fighting force.
