MCRD/ERR PARRIS ISLAND, S.C. -- Headquarters Co. and Service Co. battled against each other in the annual H&SBn. field meet June 30.
Each company provided two teams for each of the following events: obstacle course, 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay race, wheelbarrow race, fireman's carry, M-16A2 disassembly and assembly, aardvark and the three-legged race. Only two teams competed in the dizzy-izzy.
Points were given for each team's finishing position, which when totaled would determine the overall winner. First place was given five points, second place was given four points, third place was given three points and last place was given one point.
Headquarters Co. took first place in the dizzy-izzy, the 4x100, the wheelbarrow race, the fireman's carry and the three-legged race.
Sixteen Marines were provided for the tug of war event, which ended in a success for Service Co. after only two matches.
Headquarters Co., after finishing first and second place in most events, defeated Service Co. 60-56.
"[The battalion field meet] was intended to bring the battalion together and have some good wholesome fun," said Col. George S. Amland, H&SBn. commanding officer, who is slated to leave Parris Island and report to Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, N.C., July 22. "This is probably my last opportunity to see some of these people."
Afterward, a battalion family day was held with free food and drinks at the Brig & Brew.
"This was a great opportunity to re-establish and build cohesion," Amland said.
