Navy Federal Credit Union unveiled a new branch near the Beaufort Naval Hospital on Jan. 30, in a grand opening ceremony.
The new branch, located adjacent to the gas station, is open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m., and Friday from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
"We've gone from 525 square feet to 1,404 square feet. Navy Federal Credit Union is a world-class credit union and now our members can see that as well as experience it," said Teresa Semmler, branch manager.
Some of the building's new features include a large-screen television that provides members a distraction while they wait in line and a large lobby that provides plenty of waiting room.
"The new plasma screen is great," said Semmler. "It allows our members to stay current on news, weather, sports and Navy Federal Credit Union information while they wait in line. Another wonderful feature of our new location is the lobby. Before, when we were on the second floor of the hospital, members had to wait in the hallway. Now they can sit down and be comfortable."
The new branch took over a storage building that used to house the old water treatment plant.
"We were looking for a new location for our offices and when we saw this building, despite the mess, all I saw was the view here and I knew we wanted it," said Semmler. "It's the little luxuries that make the biggest difference in the new office. The building is more accessible and people don't have to walk as far to get here. Probably 75 percent of our members come from outside the gates of the installation and our old location was an annoyance; now it won't be a problem," she added.
Although the new NFCU branch has only been open for a few days, members are already excited about the new location.
"I love it - it's nice, it's open and, best of all, you don't have to climb three flights of stairs to get here," said Master Gunnery Sgt. Ray Mathis (Ret.), a member of NFCU since 1976. "All of the members are going to enjoy coming here and, with the added space, it's easier to get help from the friendly, courteous ladies."
