MCRD PARRIS ISLAND, S.C. -- The Career Resource Management Center is introducing a new way to find a job for military spouses, servicemembers and veterans.
The center will hold Career Day at the Depot Lyceum from noon - 4 p.m., Tuesday, to introduce job seekers to more than 43 employers.
"The Career Day is open to military personnel looking for a job. Whether you're separating, a spouse looking for full- or part-time work, a veteran or an active duty military member just looking for a second job, this is perfect for you," said Shauna Mitchell, Training and Employment Assistance for Military Spouses (TEAMS) counselor. "In the past, we've had just at-home employment or law enforcement fairs, but this time we thought it'd be great to bring all types of businesses together and have one big career day and the largest job fair we've ever had."
Representatives from local businesses, educational institutions, law enforcement and at-home businesses are just a few of the types of employers that will be there. The U.S. Secret Service will be recruiting, as well as employers from Georgia, North Carolina, Florida and New Jersey, said Mitchell.
"We're encouraging everyone who attends to bring their resume and dress like you're going to an interview," added Mitchell. "We've asked the employers to bring applications and a list of job openings they have now and openings they will have in the future."
"If you're not sure if your resume is correct or looks good, or if you have questions about what to wear or expect, just call and make an appointment and someone from the Career Resource Center can look it over and give you tips," said Mitchell.
For military members who will be going to the Career Day at lunch or directly from work, Mitchell said it is alright if they go in uniform.
"Obviously, the employers know the military members will be coming in the middle of their workday, so it's okay to come in uniform, however, if you can change, that is preferred," she added.
Mitchell said floor layouts will be available to allow job hunters to find possible employers easily and quickly.
The Career Day is open to more than just people who are sure they are looking for a new job, added Mitchell.
"If you just want to stop in and see what kind of employment is available, just come. You don't have to bring a resume, you can just stop in and see if anything interests you," she said.
