Applications for this year's Federal Employee Education and Assistance College Scholarship Program are available.

The 17-year-old non-profit organization helps federal employees and their families in need, and provides annual scholarships to help federal employees or their dependents pay for college tuition.

"The program has awarded more than $3 million in college scholarships to federal and postal employees and families," said Richard Greer, public relations officer with the American Federation of Government Employees Union. "Scholarships range from $300 to $1,500 per student," said Greer. The amounts are dependent on how much federal employees have donated through the Combined Federal Campaign for the FEEA program.

"Applicants can be high school seniors, full-time college students or graduate students with a minimum 3.0 grade point average," said Greer. "Federal employees can be part-time students, but must have three years of experience as a civilian federal employee or postal worker."

There are also other scholarship applications available to AFGE union members, according to James Miner, president of the local union, though the FEEA scholarship is one of the best.

One such scholarship is the John N. Sturdivant College Scholarship to the George Meany Center for Labor Studies, Inc., which provides $500 to $1,000 in scholarship funds to accepted applicants.
In all, the union provides information on more than $4 million in scholarship funds to its members.

Applications to the FEEA scholarship must be postmarked by March 28 and awards will be announced in August, in time for the fall registration.

Potential applicants can find more information and download an application at FEEA's Website at www.govexec.com . Other scholarships for federal employees and their families can be found at the union's Website, www.aflcio.org .

To receive an application by mail, send a self-addressed, stamped business-size envelope to: FEEA Scholarships, 8441 W. Bowles Ave., Suite 200, Littleton, Colo., 80123-9501.
