March 22, 2013 -- In effort to enhance the leadership capabilities of the Non-Commissioned Officer Corps, Marine Detachment Fort Leonard Wood conducted a Command Sponsored Resident Corporals Course from 7 February 2013 through 1 March 2013.
Providing Corporals with professional military education with emphasis on basic leadership skills was the overall objective for the detachment.
This resident course ensured that all Corporals within the Marine Corps Detachment Fort Leonard Wood were afforded the opportunity to develop their leadership, enhance their professional military education and expand their knowledge of Marine Corps history, customs and courtesies.
Numerous instructors from each company aboard the Marine Corps Detachment sacrificed their time and effort giving instruction to Corporals in attendance.
Upon graduation, they recited the Non- Commissioned Officer Creed, which reads:
I am an NCO, dedicated to training the new and influencing the old. I am forever conscious of each Marine under my charge and by example will inspire him to the highest standards possible. I will strive to be patient, understanding, just and firm. I will commend the deserving and encourage the Wayward. I will never forget that I am responsible to my Commanding Officer for the morale, discipline and efficiency of my men and their performance will reflect an image of me.
Course Director and Sergeant Major of Marine Detachment Fort Leonard Wood Sergeant Major Michael Gray superintended all planning and events for the Corporals Course.
"This course is as important in their development as leaders as any leadership course they will complete in their career. This detachment as well as the Corps will benefit from their performance," said Sergeant Major Gray.
