Marine Corps Base Quantico -- Marines camouflaged in civilian clothes with their families, among others dressed in trademark USMC cammies, fired up the grill to celebrate the families of those who support the Training and Education Command headquarters.
TECOM held their annual Family Day Picnic at Barnett Field on Aug. 27. Master Sgt. Kimberly Gray, TECOM staff secretary chief, organized the picnic to bring relatives and even the family dog together. Gray serves as the deputy family readiness officer with Debra Gomez, enterprise family readiness officer.
Community service vendors surrounded bright red tents and picnic tables to share information with the families. Marine Corps Community Service, USO, the Quantico Fire Department and Family Advocacy Program each provided an educational and kid-friendly environment.
Following the BBQ lunch, multiple departments of TECOM battled in a kickball tournament to win a 72-hour pass. Also available to attendees of all ages were a free raffle tickets, ladder-ball toss, bean-bag toss and an inflatable bouncing house.
Maj. Gen. James W. Lukeman, TECOM commander, and Sgt. Maj. Justin LeHew, the senior enlisted advisor, attended the picnic to greet the family members and build comradery with fellow Marines and civilians within their command. Additionally, the command gave the families the opportunity to meet one another.
“The objective is to have a good time, as we try to incorporate the families of TECOM into what we do [here on base],” said Lukeman who thanked the spouses for participating. “The work that your Marines are doing every day has a tremendous impact in the Marine Corps…I couldn’t be happier with how the TECOM machine is humming.”
