Sergeant Major Thomas J. Korabik Jr.

Sergeant Major Korabik enlisted in the Marine Corps January 1999 and attended Boot Camp at MCRD San Diego, CA. He completed training at Infantry Training Battalion (ITB), at Camp Pendleton, California. In July 1999, Private First Class Korabik reported to Weapons Company 2d Battalion, 2d Marines as a 0341 Infantry Mortarman.

In June 2000, Lance Corporal Korabik deployed as an assistant gunner in Weapons Company 81mm Mortar Platoon, Battalion Landing Team (BLT) 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marines, 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU). In November 2002, Corporal Korabik deployed as a squad leader in Weapons Company 81mm Mortar Platoon, Battalion Landing Team (BLT) 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marines, 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU). Promoted to Sergeant February 2003, Sgt Korabik and his Marines participated in the invasion of Iraq.

In July 2003, Sergeant Korabik executed orders to 2nd Light Armored Reconnaissance (LAR) Battalion to serve as Section Leader, 81mm mortar platoon, Company “D”. In February 2004 Sgt Korabik deployed with Company D in direct support of 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines in Fallujah, Iraq. In July 2005, Sergeant Korabik executed orders to School of Infantry (East). He served as mortar instructor in Company C and mortar instructor within the instructor group.

In July 2008, Staff Sergeant Korabik executed orders to Weapons Company 3rd Battalion 9th Marines to serve as 81mm mortar Platoon Sergeant. In October 2009 he deployed to Al Asad, Iraq as the Mobile Assault Platoon Sergeant. In December 2010 SSgt Korabik Deployed with Company I as the Weapons Platoon Sergeant to Marjah, Afghanistan where he was Meritoriously Promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant in April 2011.

In August 2011, GySgt Korabik executed orders to Marine Corps Security Cooperation Group as the Training Chief. From March to September 2012 GySgt Korabik deployed to the Republic of Georgia to serve as the Senior Enlisted Advisor on the Georgian Training Team. From January 2013 to July 2014 GySgt Korabik served as the Operations Chief for Marine Corps Security Cooperation Group.

In August 2014, Gunnery Sergeant Korabik executed order to Weapons Company 1st Battalion 8th Marines to serve as Combined Anti-Armor Team Platoon Sergeant and was selected for promotion to First Sergeant on the FY15 selection board. In January 2015 First Sergeant Korabik served as the First Sergeant for Company B where he deployed to Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force 16.1. He then served as First Sergeant of Headquarters and Service Company until January 2017

From January 2017 until March 2019, First Sergeant Korabik has served as the First Sergeant of Headquarters Company 8th Marine Regiment. Selected for promotion to Sergeant Major on the FY19 selection board Sergeant Major Korabik was transferred to MCAS Cherry Point N.C. March 2019 and served as the Headquarters & Headquarters Squadron Sergeant Major until November 2020.

Sergeant Major Korabik was transferred in November 2020 to VMM-365, MAG-26, MCAS New River and completed a deployment with North Africa Response Force 22.1.

His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal and one gold star, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal and one gold star; Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with “V” and two gold stars; and the Combat Action Ribbon with one gold star.
